Ahlan wa Sahlan. An ancient phrase rooted in centuries of history and tradition, it denotes, and strives to be, the physical embodiment of 'Welcome'. It symbolizes the assurance that our guests are our greatest treasures, making them feel welcomed and protected. This ranks highest on our list of priorities. Indeed, our guests are received and treated like our closest of kin, a trait deeply ingrained in our culture, and one that we seek to sustain and preserve for ages to come, both through practice and philosophy.
Here at Silwad United Community Center, we believe good health and a premium education is the key to fostering a modern, liberal and dynamic community that helps people, displays unity, and harmony. We strive to deliver this to the community creating a succession of generations that have the ideals of unity and harmony ingrained in their traits.
Through undertaking various activities in the community, Silwad United Community Center seeks to promote goodwill among the community, uplifting our youth residing in the community and ultimately contribute to the overall development of the people and society in the greater New Orleans area and beyond.
The first step of our contribution to society is the acknowledgment of the constant nature of change,
especially when it comes to a continuously expanding community. The center too has to recognize
these changes, and seek to adapt and evolve in order to keep its work relevant and beneficial.
At Silwad United Community Center, we firmly believe in adhering to the core values and principles
with which the center was established. We constantly seek to foster a sense of purpose and identity
in our members through commitment to these values, nurturing a sense of responsibility that helps
cultivate a close knit, progressive community.
