Exam prep can be hard, not anymore.
Our recent efforts have been focused on helping aspiring students in our community prepare and perform well on their ACT tests. We have received sizable and generous donations, involving books and other material, from Mastery Prep, a local organization we work closely with. Our first initiative was the ACT Prep program that aimed to help students ace their ACT Tests, gain entry into premium colleges, and earn a TOPS scholarship.
Here are the salient features.
Textbooks and essential materials were supplied to all students free of cost.
A trained ACT instructor leaded and guided each class.
Comprehensive sessions lasted for two and a half hours.
The financial tangibles.
The goal is to succeed in saving each student who registers in this program $30,000 over four years, by enabling them to earn a TOPS scholarship, or something equivalent, that helps put them through college. The program ran twice a week from February to April.
How this is driving change.
The immediate and most significant impact on our community is, of course, financial. The program has the ability to enable families save thousands of dollars on student loans and tuition fee, and instead focus their attentions and ambitions on passing their exams and gaining admission to a premium university.
The long term impact is also quite obvious and straightforward, as the looming fear of paying off student loans is also completely eradicated. Students can now concentrate on graduating with a valuable degree, enter a lucrative profession that they are passionate about, and give back to the community, thus completing the beneficial cycle. This will also hopefully motivate them to embark on their own wave of philanthropic activity in the community, kick starting a long cycle of charitable activity generation after generation.
We will continue to offer the program to our students going forward.
